On December 29, 2019, Uncle Liu, a villager from Nanhua Village, Tanxia Town, Wuhua County, Guangdong, invited workers to clean a water well for his brother's 4 families to drink, and the workers took out a bag of suspicious purple particles from the bottom of the well. Uncle Liu had difficulty determining whether the item was poisonous and reported it with caution. Approved by the relevant authorities, the suspicious substance contains furantan (pesticide). Wuhua Police has opened a case for investigation.
At the end of 2019, Uncle Liu and his family were unwell. The elders in the family said that when they felt that the well water had become fishy, relatives who came out would say they were not convinced. Everyone went to the hospital for an examination but found no cause. It was not until the self-cleaning well was found that it was caused by foreign matter in the well water.
On January 2, 2020, the reporter went to the scene to understand the situation. The reporter saw that the well cover of Liu Shu's home was composed of two semi-circles, with cement poured in the middle, but it was not solid, and there was still a gap left. Just below the gap in the manhole cover, there is a pump, and a pad is covered above the pump.
The worker told reporters that that day, after opening the manhole cover, he found that there were a lot of granular items on the pump pads, tasted a little salt, and was similar to the pesticide furatan, so he told Uncle Liu. But Uncle Liu didn't believe it.
Soon after, the worker drained the well water and salvaged a red plastic bag containing the articles at the bottom of the well, so he notified Uncle Liu again. Uncle Liu had difficulty determining the source of the item and whether it was poisonous, so he reported it. The police arrived at the scene and took a sample and took it away. It is understood that the particles contained in this plastic bag are purple, about 2.6 kg.
Uncle Liu said that his four brothers shared the well, and the four families usually lived in about 30 people, and the number of Chinese New Year was even more. Although two families installed tap water, they still drank well water. The quality of the tap water was not good, but the water pressure was high and it was only used for bathing and washing clothes. He couldn't think of anything. The family was unwell because of a problem with the well.
On the evening of January 2, 2020, Uncle Liu received a notice of appraisal of the particulate matter removed from the well from the police station in Tanxia Town, Wuhua County Public Security Bureau, confirming that Liu Shujia's well was poisoned. The notice mentioned that the Wuhua County Public Security Bureau hired relevant personnel to carry out judicial identification of the water quality of the Liu Shujia water well extracted at the site, the water quality of the water tower used, and the purple suspicious granular items picked up at the bottom of the water well, all of which detected furantan . According to China's pesticide toxicity classification standards, furandan is highly toxic and cannot be used on vegetables and fruit trees. A bird feeding on one furantan is fatal.
